Hey hey hey!
I remember the night I got a comment on this post by a friend. She had met an old friend from our Secondary School and became a bit sad. It seemed the girl had gone ahead of my friend and though she wasn’t a believer, she seemed to have the life…
I was glad for that comment because though I’d written the post months ago, it was a needed reminder for me.
To be honest, there are times I fall into indifference. Times when I lose my passion and think- ‘what’s the use? God will still kuku do what He wants to do, whether I pray or not. And even those that don’t pray seem to get greater results than me. Abeg, life can go on anyway it wants to.’
Nothing smells more like the devil than indifference. Even God hates lukewarm. Imagine how much the devil loves it then.
I know I’m not alone. All you need to do is check Instagram and you can see old friends making waves and money, and you’re just here like a snail, crawling to get to the next stage.
Sometimes, even though we might not say it out loud, many of us want to ask- ‘what do I ever get out of serving God?’
I read this yesterday and marveled at the depth of it.
God says, “You have spoken hard, rude words to me. “You ask, ‘When did we ever do that?’
“When you said, ‘It doesn’t pay to serve God. What do we ever get out of it? When we did what he said and went around with long faces, serious about God -of-the-Angel-Armies, what difference did it make? Those who take life into their own hands are the lucky ones. They break all the rules and get ahead anyway. They push God to the limit and get by with it.’”
Malachi 3:13-15 MSG
Don’t we sometimes just feel like this?
But here’s the beautiful part.
Then those whose lives honored God got together and talked it over. God saw what they were doing and listened in. A book was opened in God’s presence and minutes were taken of the meeting, with the names of the God -fearers written down, all the names of those who honored God’s name. God -of-the-Angel-Armies said, “They’re mine, all mine. They’ll get special treatment when I go into action. I treat them with the same consideration and kindness that parents give the child who honors them. Once more you’ll see the difference it makes between being a person who does the right thing and one who doesn’t, between serving God and not serving him.”
Malachi 3:16-18 MSG
Can you believe that God listens when we speak with friends? Wow!
I can’t believe it too.
He hears when we’re gossiping about Him and how good He’s been- even if our circumstances might be tough.
He hears when we meet with friends just to glorify Him, even when all of us have issues we’re dealing with.
But He also hears when we speak about Him rudely- even when we don’t say it out.
He hears when people also come together to say that God is wicked and only destroys lives, instead of changing them.
Here’s what He says about those who talk and believe the right way, even when they don’t feel like it.
Malachi 3:17-18 MSG
The truth is that the time God often goes into action isn’t always the time we want. Haha. I wanted Him to go into action for our book on my birthday in July and was sad He seemed to not hear me.
But there’s something utterly beautiful about God’s time- something we can’t always describe because it is so personal!
When God says it’s time for something in your life, only you and Him really know what’s happening. There’s no accurate way to describe it to friends.
And sometimes the beginning of ‘His time’ lands us in unpleasant situations.
We become too uncomfortable.
We lose our jobs.
We get disqualified.
We don’t get admission.
We get admission.
We lose friends.
We lose family.
We come home.
For many of us, the beginning seems like a slap in the face, we just don’t understand it.
But God doesn’t start something in our lives in the physical that hasn’t finished in the spiritual.
What’s your attitude about it though?
Do you think He’s not worth it?
Or do you think He’s worth it all?
The second question when answered correctly might make you look like a fool to the world, but God is oh so proud of you!
He’s calling out to you and saying- I’m so proud of you darling!
The devil tries to change our perspective to the negative and asks stupid questions like- “Did God really say that to you?
Are you sure this your God is real?
‘Izz like you’re a jonzer with this God o…'”
Meanwhile, God is saying: ‘Wait a little while. I’m not in a hurry. EVERYTHING works together for good for those who love me and are called according to my purpose.’
Will you believe Him?
I don’t want us to think I’m talking only in material terms here… Yes, God provides and spoils us with His promises, grace and favour.
Deeper than the material provision is what happens in our Spirits when we’ve waited on God…
Too much for words.
And when He has done His work in our lives, we’re better for it.
So, what do you think?
Does it pay to serve God?
Hope to see you on the 24th! Whoop whoop.🌋🌋🌋
