I searched for the dictionary meaning of vision and I found something interesting.
VERB: TO IMAGINE SOMETHING AS IF IT WERE TO BE TRUE.
NOUN: 1. (UNCOUNTABLE) THE SENSE OR ABILITY OF SIGHT.
2. (COUNTABLE) AN IDEAL OR A GOAL TOWARD WHICH ONE ASPIRES.
My best meaning though is the one used as a verb, because Hebrews 11:1 (which I memorized few days ago) immediately came to mind when I saw it. NOW FAITH IS BEING SURE OF WHAT WE HOPE FOR AND CERTAIN OF WHAT WE DO NOT SEE. (NIV)
I just learned a lesson from the dictionary and that is –
VISION + FAITH= POSSIBILITIES
VISION – FAITH= KO POSS. (Not possible)
What this means is that VISION is a lie without FAITH, just as FAITH without VISION is untrue.
Let’s go back to the “Feed the Homeless People” project. After I told people about what I had been thinking, VISION automatically showed face. Though the day hadn’t come, we all started to see how it could be. We imagined what distribution day will be like. Basically, the vision produced faith because we then believed that it was possible and will turn out awesome.
Personally, the vision gave me a sense of purpose and I woke everyday, reminding myself that I had something great to accomplish. The project gave me something (fulfillment) I had never had before and because of this, I want to wake all days of my life knowing and reminding myself that I still have something I have to accomplish.
I’d like to encourage you today to find where your purpose lies, and then work towards it all the days you’re blessed with on this Earth. Live for something greater than yourself! I’m not even asking you to want to make a mountain; I’m asking that you please start where you are at this exact moment. It’s in the small things that the big things happen.
Think of the things that you imagine, because most times, your purpose lies there.
Do you pass by roads every day and imagine them without litter? Maybe you should start a community work to stop people from littering.
Do you see cold people on the streets on your way to school and wish you could do something? Maybe getting funds to buy them sweaters will bring you joy.
Do you pass by your roommate’s closet and imagine how she can arrange clothes according to colour? Maybe organizing fun stuff will make you famous.
Do you imagine how your teachers can use this technique or another to make learning easier? Maybe you’d make a great teacher someday.
We all imagine different things. Focus on that thing or place your imaginations always go and start something, anything in that area!
I smiled to sleep most nights during the process of the project, because I was fulfilled knowing we had done something that day that made distribution day look more real. It thought me that true joy isn’t in the money I have or don’t have in my account, but in living a life of purpose towards a VISION by FAITH.
Most days, I look through my goals for the year and evaluate myself on whether or not I have started something towards achieving that goal. For example, I plan to exercise more, eat healthy and reduce a bit, but I haven’t started anything towards that goal. Don’t be like me in that aspect.
I also plan to draw at least a cartoon character every month; I’ve started looking to buy a new sketch pad and pencil. This means I’ve started something towards that goal. You can be like me in that aspect.
In summary, LIVE FOR SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOURSELF.
HAVE A VISION AND PLAN TOWARDS ACCOMPLISHING IT.
VISION IS SEEING SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOU; FAITH IS KNOWING THAT YOU WILL BE BIGGER.
