How do I know when God is the one leading me?

How do I know when God is the one leading me?

Hey hey hey!

ISAIAH 55: 12 (A)

You will go out in joy and be led in peace…(NIV)
You will leave Babylon with joy; you will be led out of the city in peace…(GNB)
So you’ll go out in joy, you’ll be led into a whole and complete life…(MSG)
For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace…(KJV)

There are many ways to know when God is the one leading you. Many times people want to be sure that it’s not their emotions or the devil that is leading them to take a decision.

Sometimes, it can even be fear that leads us, but how do we know- REALLY KNOW- when God is the one leading?
One way I know God leads believers is with peace.

Do you have peace about what you want to do?
Please, note that it is possible to cultivate false peace (usually has to do with fear). I did it one time with my book- LETTERS TO OUR FATHERS.

It was Frances God used to shake me to accept God’s peace instead. The peace I had about doing only an ebook was built on fear that God would not provide for printing.

This was after He had already given His word that He will provide, but there was nothing SUPERNATURAL about an ebook. My peace was false & man-made.

Anyway- back to God’s peace.

John 14: 26-27 (NIV)
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

First question- where do you get your peace from? If it’s from any material thing- it is false peace.

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Then you will defile your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, “Away with you!”

Again, is your peace in any idol (money, phone, family, husband/wife, governor, Oil company worker, etc)? If it is, it’s false peace.
I remember when I decided to Intern at LEAP Africa for 3 months, knowing I wasn’t going to be paid.

I was discouraged and thought of how I was going to fend.

I can’t remember the exact verse I heard now, but as Isaiah 30:21 stated- I really heard a voice behind me…
I remember I had gone to pee and as I was about to step out- I heard the verse that encouraged me to stay, just like someone had whispered it behind me.
But here’s another point- Do you read your Bible?
If you don’t, what word or voice will you hear when you need it the most?
It will not be a voice from Jenifa Dairies (I love this series, by the way), neither will it be one by Beyonce in any of her famous songs- the voice will MOST LIKELY be a VERSE. (Or a message from someone led by the Spirit.)

Read your Bible if you want to be led in peace (without doubt), so that God can remind you FROM His word.
The beautiful thing is that as you walk with God daily, you’d begin to know how He speaks to you PERSONALLY.

One of mine is that many ‘coincidences’ will happen or I will see a verse repeatedly in one day. Coincidences for me most times mean confirmation.
How does God speak to you? Walk with Him daily and you’d begin to notice…

However, God can use ANY and EVERY thing to speak to you. Don’t be like Elijah here who thought he knew God inside out.
You can’t hear God if you never listen or if you’re always in ‘noisy’ situations. Take out time for personal retreats and spend quality time with God.

I have one free month before I resume school and I am excited about it because I get to spend more time with God and get revelation for my life.
God is not a myth. And you don’t have to be perfect to hear or be led by Him. As you continually let Him lead you, you’d begin to see changes in your life and this peace will flow from you to others.
The only way to get better is by spending time with God and His word. He prunes.

See what David said here:

Psalm 119:10-11
I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

So, if you have peace about stealing or killing; you’d remember God’s command not to do so and to forgive as God forgave you.

The only way you can know what God says about these things is to hide His word in your heart so that you might not sin against Him.

Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s PEACE, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 GNB

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Philippians 4:6-7 MSG

I pray that God helps us all to gain more revelation.
All I want is a deeper walk with Jesus. I’m not here to play cool, calm and collected when it comes to my salvation.

I have passed the stage where I can be quiet about it.
God help us all. May His peace daily lead us.

Love always,

  • Chinenye

    Just what I needed.

For some days now, I have been finding it difficult to read my Bible (don’t know why). Mind you, I sleep and wake up with it o. But anytime I wake up in the morning recently, I have been doing sharp sharp prayer and as I am about to stand up from my bed, I hear that voice stay with me and I just wave it off saying I will read it during the day or at night (how bad of me).

But this post is a confirmation of the voice I have been hearing lately especially at this time when I need to make decisions .

    Thank you Bolaji

  • And thank you Chinenye!

If we’re sensitive, we’d know that God is always speaking. Always!
Even in His silence, there’s a word for our situation in the Bible- which means we’re never down and out.

We always have his voice to hold on to- in the Bible and daily as we walk with Him.

I pray we listen to Him more and more…💚

  • Indeed, the deeper and longer we are in relationship with someone, the more we understand how he/she communicates; the same applies with God.
One of the most reassuring things with God is that you can’t miss His voice, as long as your heart is receptive to Him. You’ll just deep within you that “this is God”. After all, the Spirit within us bears witness with our spirits.

    • Yes yes! As long as our hearts are receptive, then we can hear from God.
Sometimes, I ask if an idea isn’t just from my head and things will happen to show that it is/was God. He has a way of making sure you know.

Thanks for sharing bro! God bless.
