Redefined Masculinity: Rebuild your walls.

Hey hey hey!

I’ve been studying the book and person of Nehemiah and I’m amazed at who this man was. I always have so much to think about when I read each Chapter. The lessons are so obvious, yet seem hidden.

The emperor asked, “What is it that you want?” I prayed to the God of Heaven, and then I said to the emperor, “If your majesty is pleased with me and is willing to grant my request, let me go to the land of Judah, to the city where my ancestors are buried, SO THAT I CAN REBUILD THE CITY.
Nehemiah 2: 4-5

There are MANY lessons I have learned from Nehemiah, but I want us to focus on rebuilding…
Rebuilding God’s way back to the hearts of people with the way we live our lives, especially as men.

“So we went on rebuilding the wall, and soon it was half its full height, because the people were eager to work. Sanballat, Tobiah, and the people of Arabia, Am on, and Ashdod heard that we were making progress in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and that the gaps in the wall were being closed, and they were very angry. So they all plotted together to come and attack Jerusalem and create confusion, but we prayed to our God and kept men on guard against them day and night.
Nehemiah 4:6-9

After 52 days of work the entire wall was finished on the 25th day of the month of Elul. When our enemies in the surrounding nations heard this, they realized that they had lost face, since everyone knew that the work had been done WITH GOD’S HELP.

Nehemiah 6:15-16

Nehemiah was so passionate about rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem that though he had a really nice job, he knew his purpose was way more than that. By obeying to rebuild a wall, his name and lessons were recorded in the Bible.

Good thing is that you don’t necessarily have to leave your job to rebuild the wall I’m talking about today, in fact, God may need you to rebuild the broken walls right there in your office/home.

The remains of the walls of salvation, the word, Godly living, service, obedience and loyalty, sacrifice and excellence may exist where you are but God wants you to rebuild His walls. He wants you to set a standard.

Nehemiah, with the help of other passionate men rebuilt the wall in 52 days, but it’s such a blessing that you can rebuild these walls everyday for the rest of your life. Rebuilding broken walls isn’t child’s play so like Nehemiah, you will need men who think and see like you, who see the need to bring back the principles of God wherever they have been lost.

When or if you’re made this decision, be sure that you will encounter discouragement or hate from different people and places, but it doesn’t really matter because you are living for the audience of one. Those who broke walls with you before will not understand why you suddenly want to rebuild walls, but don’t be detered.

As you pray, you better watch because the devil is not playing with you. There were many ways the enemies tried to deceive Nehemiah but he knew their plans because he was always praying and getting instructions from God. There was a time he went to meet an elderly friend for advise and the person asked him to hide in the temple because his enemies wanted to kill him. Nehemiah was too smart for that.

I sincerely thought that was a good thing to do, at least so he could be safe from his enemies but Nehemiah sensed that this elderly ‘friend’ had planned with his enemies so they could easily kill him if he agreed to hide in the temple.

Many people will ask you to hide.
They will make it seem like Jesus is a ‘woman thing’ and all you need to do is pray for a godly woman, but don’t be deceived; you need Jesus more than even a woman in your life. Find men who are living as men after God’s heart and do life with them. Get godly men into your circle and begin to read the Bible FOR YOURSELF. Do not depend on what you hear every Sunday.

Rebuilding walls can mean many things and may also mean rebuilding purity. I remember when loved ones didn’t like the fact that I shared my past in our book LETTERS TO OUR FATHERS. Some thought it was unnecessary and some hoped that I was still a virgin even if I wasn’t pure.
It got me thinking…

What if I had had sex before getting saved?
Will that have ‘reduced my bride price’ in God’s eye or made me unusable by Him?

It made me understand that many still saw/see vurginity as purity. I understand now that the two aren’t synonyms.

Decide now to rebuild walls of purity in your life, even if you’ve had sex or done stuff before. Decide now to honour God with your life and body; and to honour your wife or future wife too.

It may not be easy, but is definitely worth it. You’d be amazed how many people you’d encourage by just starting to rebuild the walls in your own life.
You’d be amazed how many people will be able to come out of darkness because you were or are able to do the same.

This series will end next week but we pray that you’d not just be a man but a GODLY man in every sense of the word.
You’d not just be a Church-goer but a Christ follower.
You’d not just be a human, but one who lives life to glorify Jesus.

Amen.

God bless you!

Love always,
Mobolaji.
