Our 4 Job Descriptions as Born Again Christians In Every Sphere of Life

Heal the sick

Raise the dead

Cleanse the leper

Cast out demons

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. (NIV) Matthew 10:8

Let me give some background story to this. At the beginning of this year, God gave me two scriptures for my year.

  1. but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

  2. He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. Mark 16: 15-18

I took this seriously for the first few weeks, but kind of drifted from it from the second month of the year, but anytime I heard the word ‘Soar’, I was reminded of the word God spoke over me and was convicted because I felt I was doing nothing with it. We’ve been taught in my Church that whenever you get a specific word from God (or a prophecy), engage that word. Speak it, think about it, pray about it, live it! Sadly, I wasn’t really doing any of that.

The mandate to go into world and preach was so strong that I created tracts, sent to my Pastor to help edit and I still haven’t printed them; but for about two months now, God has been pushing me back into that word. He began to deal with things in my life that I did not realize were there.

I had inferiority complex about many things and that’s surprising for someone like me who people think is confident. God began to peel things I had stored up and my layers and layers of brass. I remember feeling the strong urge to pray in the spirit one night. I prayed, took my laptop, finished a book I had started many times before and then He dealt with one major past sin that kept tormenting me.

When I was a teenager, I experimented a bit with lesbianism. I have NEVER shared this anywhere or with anyone before. I started this article, not knowing I will even be writing about it (though I wrote about it in the book that night). I had abused a younger friend and though God had forgiven me, He wanted me to reach out to her and apologize. I did not want to do it, but He gave me strength and I got instant forgiveness from her though she didn’t even remember.

Then, I started a class last week at House of Prayer (you should check them out on Instagram and look out for their classes). For the next 8 weeks, I am attending a class called ‘Hosting The Presence’ and the first class was so weird, yet so powerful. We were to worship for the first one hour of the class and then were encouraged to get words of knowledge for one another. You know, we were basically doing what the believers of old used to do- things we rarely see among us these days.

When I shared my word of knowledge for the facilitator, he said he was just praying about that exact word in the morning and I thought- what! He can’t be serious, I’ve never done that before, how can it be accurate?

Just that one day, I learned and was reminded that no matter where I am in life or whatever season, my 4 job descriptions are simply:

Heal the sick

Raise the dead

Cleanse the leper

Cast out demons

Someone in the class mentioned that she didn’t really know what she was currently doing at her office and was a bit confused about her season, oh well, the facilitator reminded her that as long as God hadn’t asked her to move yet, her job descriptions at that office remained the same and that encouraged me.

I have prophesies over my life that I sometimes wonder, when will these things happen? Should I be in ministry full time (we’re all kuku in full time ministry as long as we’re born again, but you get what I mean)? Will God take all my dreams away if I yield every part of my life to Him?

Many questions and the answer makes so much sense now. My job descriptions remain the same, even though my seasons will change.

Heal the sick

Raise the dead

Cleanse the leper

Cast out demons

And actually, this isn’t just in the theoretical sense- where we are to bring healing to hearts and raise dead situations- these things are just as important.

But these things really mean ‘greater things than Jesus did’. We’re to literally pray for people to get healed. We’re to literally raise the dead. We’re to literally cleanse the leper. We’re to literally cast out demons.

I read a Chapter in Acts today that really challenged me and how laid back I have been all these years of being saved.

In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!” Acts 9: 36-38

Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. Acts 9: 40-41

This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Acts 9:42

Peter did not have to do much for people to believe. Where there are miracles, signs and wonders, people will believe in the supernatural and ultimately believe.

We can’t and shouldn’t be satisfied with the norm. We shouldn’t be twitter evangelists alone or social media commenters who marvel at the work of other ministers; when the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. I am challenged, honestly. There are people whose names I do not even know who are living this out everyday and I am ok living in a bubble like Christ will not ask me what I did with the power He gave me.

Your job, business, foundation, etc is not an excuse to live a lukewarm life. Even in those spheres, you must always remember that your job descriptions are to

Heal the sick

Raise the dead

Cleanse the leper

Cast out demons

Love and light,

Mobolaji.
