Hey hey hey!
I’ve been meaning to write about this for a while because I am super scared for believers who do not spend time in God’s presence or read the Bible for themselves. It is dangerous.
I remember the speed with which I used to unfriend one guy on Facebook who took the Abraham, Lazarus and rich man’s story totally out of context (Luke 16). All these social media people will not kill someone. I don’t know if he wanted to sound like a business mogul or one deep person but this is how he illustrated the story.
Lazarus died a poor man and was in the bosom (lower part) of Abraham because He died poor and did not ‘fulfill his purpose’ on earth or make money enough; therefore Abraham had to put him in his ‘bosom’. The story dazed me so much and when I saw how he tried to justify his post in the comments section when some people pointed out his wrong context, he said it was not a religious post but one to illustrate another point. A point I still don’t understand.
Here’s what I found when I researched what the Bible meant by Abraham’s bosom:
Unique phrase found in a parable of Jesus describing the place where Lazarus went after death ( Luke 16:19-31 ). It is a figurative phrase that appears to have been drawn from a popular belief that the righteous would rest by Abraham’s side in the world to come, an opinion described in Jewish literature at the time of Christ. The word kolpos [kovlpo“] literally refers to the side or lap of a person. Figuratively, as in this case, it refers to a place of honor reserved for a special guest, similar to its usage in John 13:23. In the case of Lazarus, the reserved place is special because it is beside Abraham, the father of all the righteous. The phrase may be synonymous to the paradise promised to the thief on the cross ( Luke 23:43 ). Together these passages support the conviction that a believer enjoys immediate bliss at the moment of physical death.”
People will do anything to get likes and followers so be very wary of those that don’t read the Bible but teach it. Where do you think their revelation will come from?
Once I check someone’s profile, I can almost immediately tell the kind of person they are and what is important to them. You cannot afford to follow popular people teaching nonsense because you have refused to read the Bible and hear God for yourself.
You know, sometimes I come across videos and posts of people doing unbiblical things like beating a member in front of the congregation for committing sin or asking people to eat grass or carry snakes; I saw one who must not touch the ground until he finishes his message, so strong members must carry him until he finishes preaching. Things are happening o, and you cannot afford to be lukewarm. You might see these things from afar and condemn them but if you are not fortified spiritually, you will not know when the wind will blow to your side. This is not the time to be sleeping on bicycle.
People are desperate for glory and fame. I saw another post on how we should seek glory and fame because Jesus is the glorious one and we as His followers should not see anything bad in it. This got me thinking…
Jesus did not come to just seek glory or fame, He was glory personified but no one has been as humble as Him since He went to sit at the right hand of God.
Born in a Manger…not mansion
Served under his parents and did not start His ‘public’ Ministry until the ripe time
Flogged and bruised for our sake
Naked on the cross and still spared a thief by His side
Jesus = Humility. He wasn’t humble, He is humility.
Therefore, any glory or fame I get if not given to me by God for HIS PURPOSE is outright selfishness. I remember a message by Dr. Myles on this matter of acquiring wealth and gaining glory and that once it is not a God-dream, it is already a selfish dream.
What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.
When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
The presence of God is sweet and you can enjoy it too. Do not rely on the God of sososo when you can have God in your life. This is why I’m not always comfortable with phrases like “God of…”, I just slide in my name because those men of God call on the same God I call. But if I depend on only what others tell me about God, they can control my entire life.
Oh my. I remember when I just got saved and someone told me the Holy Spirit was the wicked one out of the Trinity and that God the Father and God the Son were nicer than the Holy Spirit. I was also told that if I did not fall when I received the gift of speaking in tongues, then what I received was fake. This might sound silly now, but you don’t want to know what this caused in my life. I almost gave up on God because I felt He was just deceiving me all along when His presence in my life was fake compared to someone else’s…
Lord have mercy!
But as I spent more time in God’s presence, I knew who to trust for Spiritual guidance and when I approached a friend/mentor about the falling matter, the first thing she asked me was, ‘where is that in the Bible?’
Even the way Jesus performed miracles baffles me. The man prayed so much that the miracle wasn’t a problem, it was the receiving that was another story.
This is not to say that you just shut down all your Social Media accounts, pack your bags and go and live on a rock; but that you should be mindful of what you take in. I remember telling my closest friend that I had been feeling horny and instead of sympathizing with me, she simply said it had a root and I must have been dwelling on somethings. The way she moved on ehn, LOL.
Be mindful of e-evangelists who just want to share things because being a Christian is now the ‘cool’ thing on the net.
Anything or anyone who proclaims a gospel that puts the spotlight on them instead of Jesus is not an evangelist (or e-evangelist).
I hope with these few points of mine, I have been able to convince you and not confuse you that Jesus is Lord. Follow Him and you will see the light.
Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”
