I WILL NOT CONFORM

Hey hey hey!

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

This was my word for the day and though I’ve read this so many times (it’s probably one of the most quoted Bible verses), I found treasure in it again today. So, after I confessed my sins to my best friend (as James asks us to), she encouraged me on that aspect of my life and I shared what I learned from Romans 12:2.

We quote that verse without the second part way too many times. Meanwhile, it’s a part we should never miss because it directly links with the first part of the verse, which means doing one part without the other is incomplete.

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (MSG)

It’s amazing how I have been battling with fitting in with the world’s culture since I started work. But it’s really a fight, I want to act look, I want people to see me as cool, but I don’t want them to think I agree with their lifestyle. I don’t want them to think I live like them either; without judging them.

This happens almost every time I find myself in a new place. If I don’t remain strongly in the Jesus culture, I’ll often find myself laughing at silly jokes that don’t pass the Philippians test or singing songs I’ll ordinarily not sing. You know that thing about being salt?

I always wonder, why does salt always have to be small in secular places? Why can’t we all just be salt? Lol.

Anyway, God is already telling me that the way you don’t pour a whole pack of salt in the pot is the same way you need just little on earth to affect the whole.

It can be confusing though, because as much as I beat myself down sometimes that I’m not doing enough to show that I’m salt, these people know. How? I can’t tell.

So, maybe, just maybe I need to focus less on doing and just be.

Be Bolaji.

Be not conformed.

Be like Jesus.

To the second part of Romans 12:2, isn’t it sad that we have so many confused Christians who can’t tell the will of God from theirs? Maybe it’s because we focus too much on Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that we don’t get that refusal to not conform will lead us to not know the will of God. Everything and everyone may sound like Him…

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Then, meaning after not conforming will we be able to test and approve what God’s will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Why then do many of us conform so easily? Why does the culture of the world appeal to us? Why do we even care if we’re cool or not?

What do you think is the problem here?

Love and light,

Mobolaji.

  1. Oh, this blessed me.

The reason many of us conform is simple. Conformity brings acceptance. It’s easier to conform than to try to change things. It’s easier to conform than to be different.

Whoever enjoys being ridiculed or tagged a “weirdo”?

May God help us be salt indeed.
